The first smile happens on Alder Street, where the air smells faintly of disinfectant and rain-soaked pavement, and where small kindnesses travel farther than anyone expects. In this town, late afternoons carry secrets in their pockets, and every familiar corner - clinic steps, shop windows, park benches - holds the kind of quiet hope that makes people look twice.

But the question beneath it all is sharper than it seems: what happens when tenderness meets the kind of fear that learned to wear armor? As Mara and the stranger who keeps returning to her life with steady gentleness collide with misunderstandings and a community that can turn fast, When Smiles Meet asks whether love built on kindness can survive the moment someone decides to stop believing.
