A satellite launched on 11 February 1965 is still orbiting above our heads.

LES-1 — Lincoln Experimental Satellite One — failed its mission as a communications relay. Sixty years later, it is still in orbit.

This book is told in its own voice.

Part orbital chronicle, part historical narrative, and part dry observation of humanity, SATELLITES travels through the history of the Space Age: Sputnik, Laika, Vanguard 1, the race to the Moon, the first orbital debris, and Starlink.

From 2,800 kilometres above Earth, a thirty-one-kilogram object watches what humans have sent into the sky, what they have left there, and what it reveals about them.

Based on real events, SATELLITES gives voice to a unique narrator: a real satellite whose mission failed, was long forgotten — and is still there.
