She came to collect his soul. She never planned to lose her own.

Calla Renn feels nothing. That is the price of her work, and she paid it gladly — a reckoner who lifts the debts of the dead with steady hands and a heart packed in ice. One last collection in a frostbound mountain town. One soul, owed at the new moon. Simple.

Then a warm, callused hand brushes hers across a piece of pale wood, and a hundred winters of careful numbness crack wide open.

Eli Marsh has been needed by everyone and chosen by no one. He doesn't know the grey-eyed stranger in his workshop has come to settle a debt with his name on it — a debt that was never lawfully his. All he knows is that she wants nothing from him, and that wanting nothing makes her the first person who could ever want him.

But the ledger always balances. To save Eli, Calla must walk into the cold heart of the thing that made her and prove a forgery no reckoner has ever lived to expose — and the price of standing up is everything she is. Collect him and live. Refuse and be damned. Or burn down her whole frozen forever for one short, warm, mortal life beside the man she was sent to kill.

The new moon is coming. Someone's soul comes due. And the only door left is the one that terrifies her most.

For readers who crave a slow-burning, spicy paranormal romance where the icy heroine thaws and the dependable hero finally gets chosen.
