In A Flickering of Souls¸ a dying woman blocks the child she gave up 57 years ago from finding her. The child given up must calculate the cost of pursuing the past. And a former addict has to decide whether he has the right to bring the two women together. He also must come to terms with his memory of one terrible night in his own life.

It's a story of people seeking redemption and forgiveness, set against two magical locations – the Cape Cod National Seashore and Santa Fe.

It is, as well, a tale of impermanence. We are here briefly. We are flickering souls.

In their review, "Readers' Favorite" wrote, "Robert Lovinger's The Flickering of Souls is the work of an author alert to the moral weight of small gestures. … Readers who enjoy true literary fiction will adore this book."
