The inequality has never been wider, and the faith has never been thinner, and you knew both of these things in your body before anyone showed you a number. This book is the first of three, and it asks the question hiding under the number: why.

The answer you have been handed is a lie of convenience. It is not the elites, and it is not white men, and it is not the immigrant, and it is not the movement that marched for Black lives. Those answers are handed down to you for one reason: to keep you fighting the person beside you instead of looking up.

So look up. What is up there is power, but not the small, tired thing you were taught to picture.

What is up there is a shadow government, its roster sealed, and at the top of it sits one of two hungers: men who cannot make their peace with dying, or a supernatural will to defile what is human.

We cannot get names, so we come at it the long way, four times over. We sit with the survivors, and we take their testimony as testimony. We follow the public record, the crimes already proven and lying in the open. We read the old texts, which named this thing across every tradition, thousands of years before we were born. And we reason, setting side by side what power is counting on you never to hold in the same hand.

Come doubting or come convinced, it makes no difference. Every claim is marked for what it is: fact, testimony, or argument. Nothing here asks for your faith. It asks only your attention, which is harder, and worth more.

There is a shadow government. So democracy is dead. So vote neither. This is Book I. This is the proof.
