Before I was born

Holy Thursday — April 13, 1944

A man, 33 years old,

leaves his home

in Katerini, Greece.

Before leaving,

he kisses his wife

and their three small children.

His wife is pregnant.

The child she is carrying

will be born four months later.

He will never know his father.

He leaves with a "friend"

to cut wood on the mountain.

That night,

he stays at the house of his best man.

Good Friday — April 14, 1944

The next day,

they capture him.

He will never return.

He is captured and executed

His body is thrown into a ravine.

It is never found.

There is no funeral.

No memorial service.

Four months later,

I was born.

My name is Harry Anastasiou.

And this is my story
