She crossed dark matter for love. Now love is asking her to go further.

Mara Voss has been living on Ael Voss for forty-two days — long enough to fall in love with a sea that glows from within, to build a friendship with Kael's sister Sael, and to begin to feel, cautiously and with wonder, that she might actually belong somewhere other than Earth.

Then a student leaves a folded piece of paper on her desk, and everything changes.

What Oel's calculations reveal is a sixty-year-old secret buried in the council's archives: a signal pulsing from deep void space that nobody has been willing to finish investigating. A signal that, Mara soon discovers, is not coming from nothing. It is coming from something ancient — something built long before any of the seven systems had the technology to build it. And for the last sixty-three years, something on the other side of the void has been answering.

As Mara digs deeper, she uncovers a truth the council has been quietly afraid of for generations: the neighborhood is larger than anyone thought, and it has been watching them grow up.

The Weight of Light is the second book in The Space Between Stars series — a story about what it means to make a home in a strange world, what it takes to finish a question that frightened everyone before you, and what happens when love stops being a reason to stay and becomes a reason to go further. Rich with wonder, warmth, and a mystery that reaches back tens of thousands of years, this is science fiction romance for readers who want to feel the size of the universe and the intimacy inside it.
