Purnendu Narayana Sinha of Benares published A Study of the Bhâgavata Purâna; or, Esoteric Hinduism in 1901. The book proceeds Skandha by Skandha through the Bhâgavata Purâna — the great Sanskrit narrative of Vishnu and Krishna — summarising the story and expounding the philosophical doctrine that the Purâna implicitly teaches. It remains the most accessible English-language guide to one of the central texts of Hindu devotional literature.
