It was supposed to be a new beginning.

Armand Reyes left his small village in Luzon, answering an American woman's advertisement for a husband — the promise of a home, a future, a family.

But the moment he steps off the ship in San Francisco, he sees her: a young Filipina woman standing alone on the docks, her eyes downcast, her wrists faintly bruised.

She is the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.

And she belongs to another man — a cruel trafficker who sells women to the highest bidder.

Torn between the promise he made to his American bride-to-be and the impossible pull he feels toward the frightened young woman, Armand must choose: his own future, or her freedom.
