*Lucifer: A Theosophical Magazine* was founded by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky in London in September 1887 and was the principal English-language periodical of the Theosophical Society from its founding through the mid-1890s. The title — *Lucifer*, the *light-bringer* — was a deliberate provocation against the Christian convention that identifies the name with the Devil.

This edition reproduces Volume 1 — September 1887 to February 1888 — in full.
