A temporary job on the fifth floor could become the beginning of a completely different life.**

San Francisco, 1986. June Alvarez has promised herself that her new position at Bellweather & Co. is only a sensible holiday job—a brief stop before she figures out what comes next. But the fifth-floor dress department is no ordinary workplace.

Among racks of shimmering party dresses, impossible customers, temperamental registers, and fashion disasters waiting to happen, June meets a group of women who refuse to let one another face life alone. There is sharp-eyed Margo, the elegant floor manager with secrets of her own; quick-witted Denise; fearless Roz; talented Linh; and Evelyn, who has spent decades learning that the right dress can sometimes help a woman see herself differently.

Then June discovers a confidential memo that could close the department and scatter the women who have slowly become her found family.

To protect the fifth floor, June must stop treating her dreams like something to hide in a sketchbook. With friendship, courage, and a little department-store glamour, she may finally find the place where she belongs.
