History takes a lovely turn when Anglican James Madison, the congressman from Virginia, notices the young Dolley Payne Todd—whose beauty cannot be hidden under her austere Quaker dress. Dolley struggles with the grief. For James, love blooms. When Dolley finally embraces her loss, she discovers the transformative power of love and chooses life—a life that includes James. That decision will unlock doors, change lives, and even change the course of a nation. As the British march on Washington City, an act of love and courage exemplifies the bravery and selflessness of James’s beloved Dolley, who would become the first to be known as America’s First Lady.
