"A story of unbreakable love, the courage to speak the unspeakable, and one family's journey through the silence that nearly consumed them."

When Lidwine Santar arrives in New York from the Ivory Coast, she carries with her the hopes of a new life. She builds a home, a family, a community — until the day her son Alexander begins to disappear before her eyes.

What follows is a mother's fierce refusal to accept the silence her culture demands. Navigating the stigma of mental illness within the African immigrant community, a healthcare system ill-equipped to see her son whole, and a family fracturing under fear and denial, Lidwine fights — for Alexander, for Daphne, for the truth that silence never protects anyone.

The Weight of Silence is a memoir of immigration, motherhood, faith, and the long road to healing. It is for every family sitting in the dark with a child they love and fears they cannot name. You are not alone.
